"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."

Observation/Application: Yesterday was a tough afternoon.  I had several run-ins with my children.  Don’t get me wrong I love my kids but there are times when they can drive me on edge.  It’s interesting that when I discipline my kids God is usually disciplining me at the same time!  As I came into the office exhausted with the interaction I sat down and read Matthew 5:5.  Blessed are the Meek! OUCH!  The Meek are those who humble themselves before God because they acknowledge their utter dependence on him.  As a result gentleness will abound.  I long to be gentle in my response to my kids because I want them to follow me in what I have to teach them.  Unfortunately, I often fail.  I have found harsh words crush and wound yet with a gentle word discipline is effective.  As you read Jesus words in the gospels notice his gentleness stemming from his meekness.  Especially notice it when he disciplines (The women at the well for example).  May Christ’s gentle words of truth lead you to follow him daily.

Prayer: Lord, help me to speak with gentleness and kindness to my kids, my family, and those you bring into my life.  May my words reflect the forgiveness you have given me through your power demonstrated on the cross.  Amen.
