Matthew 5:8
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."

Observation/Application: Have you ever thought what it would be like to see God?  We get some glimpses in Scripture.  There is Isaiah as he is brought before the throne of God in chapter 6.  There is also John’s account in Revelation chapter 1.  We also have an account where Moses got to see Yahweh’s back side in Exodus chapter 33.  Each one of these events is filled with awe, wonder, and utter amazement.  John’s reaction was that he fell back as though he were dead!  I can’t imagine a greater rush, a more awesome site that to see God face to face.  Yet do I long for this? Do I look forward to it?  Is it a promise that gives me hope?  Jesus wanted to give hope to the multitudes that were with him.  Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God!  What a promise.  So what does it mean to be pure in heart?  A pure heart is one that is free from the contamination of sin.  It is not divided in it’s loyalties to Jesus and the unrighteousness found in the world.  So how can this happen?  It can only happen through the grace freely given on the cross.  And one day because of this grace that gave us a pure heart we will get to see Jesus!

Prayer: Lord may I look forward to this day.  Thank you for forgiving me and the promise of seeing you face to face.

Blessings,

Steve
