Prov 4:23 "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life"Observation/Application: As Solomon is in the middle of encouraging his son to seek after wisdom with perseverance that will never give up, he gives his son the most important piece of wisdom while living on earth. Above all else, guard your heard. So the question that naturally follows is what are you exposing your heart to? You see Solomon also gives us the reason to guard our hearts. He states that it is the wellspring of life. I remember hiking in the back country in the sierra’s, and for the majority of the trip we had to purify our water to make it drinkable. We either had to boil it or drop purification tablets in the water so we wouldn’t get sick. A couple of times though we came across a natural spring of water. We would sit there for what seemed like hours drinking pure water that has not been tainted. It was so good. When we expose our hearts to things we shouldn’t there is a cost. You may not see right away and you may think you got away with something but it affects your wellspring of life.your heart. So I say to you as Solomon says, “Guard your heart!”
Prayer: Father thank you for the wisdom of Solomon. May we guard our hearts intently with your help and strength. Amen
Blessings,
Steve
