Romans 12:17, 18 "17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."Observation/Application: So I’m sitting here reading Romans 12 about how love must be sincere and what that looks like and then verse 17 pops out of the page. BE CAREFUL TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT IN THE EYES OF EVERYBODY. I’m thinking no way. God how can I do that. I certainly know that I can’t please everybody and should I even try? Thankfully Paul gives us an out in verse 18."if it is possible, as far as it depends on you live at peace with everyone." Whew that’s a little relief but what I think Paul is doing is telling us what our attitude should be in sincere love. With a little study one comes to realize that doing right in the eyes of people does not necessarily mean pleasing them. Remember Paul says “everybody” and you and I need to do what is right in the eyes of God first and foremost. So as it depends on us let’s seek to love and serve and be at peace with those around us during the Holiday season.
Prayer: Father, as we spend time with family and friends give us eyes for ways to serve and love them. Amen.
Blessings,
Steve
